Hello!

I'm Amanda.

I'm a writer and mentor with ADHD and Tourette's Syndrome, and I help other neurodivergent writers achieve their writing dreams.

Why should you listen to me?

After years of struggling to write, of battling the self-critical voice in my head, of being too scared to take the next step, of not understanding why I couldn't focus and of wondering why time seemed to slip through my fingers, I was diagnosed with ADHD.  Armed with my experience and knowledge in social work and academic mentoring, I set about finding ways to cope.

Here's what I've done since then...

Won a bunch of competitions.

Competing with other writers when you feel like a massive fraud is not easy. It takes a lot of courage and emotional energy to gear yourself up to this kind of exposure, and to leave yourself wide open to rejection.  I miss the mark plenty of times, and often don't even make the longlist. My rejection sensitivity can be through the roof, but I enter things anyway. If I can do it, so can you.

Started a newsletter.

Again, tricky stuff. Overthinking, procrastinating, fear of the unsubscribe button, it's all there. But today it isn't always right at the surface. I take these barriers seriously and treat them with respect, but they are no longer in charge.

Turned my experience into a growing business.

I'm not going to tell you I've been able to sack off the day job and I'm making millions in my sleep. I've been to those webinars.

They suck.

But what I can tell you is that I have found ways to monetise my writing without losing my mind. I have an additional income stream today that's pretty decent and I have plenty of room to grow. This is doable, everyone, I promise.

Listen:

It is not hopeless.
You are not hopeless.
You don't have to grow a thicker skin.
Change is nonetheless possible.
I can help.
